This charming Wiltshire Market Town, on a hilltop, is England’s oldest borough.
With a rich history, Malmesbury is encircled by the River Avon and has a fantastic community spirit. Home to a 12th Century Abbey which stands proudly over the town and lots of independent shops and eateries, Malmesbury is a desirable location to set up home.
Browse the charming streets and thriving high street with an array of independent retailers and a weekly farmers’ & artisan market (taking place on a Friday). Well known supermarket brands can also be found in the town including Waitrose and Co-op.
Along the High Street, there are a variety of local pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops. From hardware and home furniture stores to a unique gift shop, there’s plenty to browse.
There are some fantastic schools located in the town with Malmesbury Church of England Primary School and Malmesbury School for 11-18 year olds both rated Outstanding by Ofsted.
Alongside the magnificent 12th century Abbey are the beautiful Abbey House Gardens that straddle the River Avon, offering a stunning array of colours from March to November. Adjacent to the abbey is The Old Bell Hotel, alleged to be the oldest hotel in England dating back to 1220. Also nearby is the Athelstan Museum, named after the first ‘King of all England’, which not only houses historical items and fascinating collections but also hosts music events and talks.
Malmesbury has become home to many annual musical, cultural and food events and festivals and is proud to be the home of many famous inventors and entrepreneurs, including the base for Dyson! Look out for the annual WOMAD festival at nearby Charlton Park and the annual Malmesbury Festival and Carnival during the summer months.
Nearby in the Cotswolds countryside, Whatley Manor is a stunning place for a getaway or day trip. For an exceptional dining experience, Two Michelin Star Executive Chef, Niall Keating and his team serve up high quality food and to relax, check out their fabulous spa.
The town offers a great base for exploring the wider Cotswolds and is a short drive from Westonbirt Arboretum, the Cotswold Water Park and Chavenage House. The nearest train station is Chippenham and several local buses serve the area, taking you to nearby towns.
There’s no greater endorsement than a recommendation.
When you refer a friend or family member who then goes on to sell or let with us, we will give you £150 to spend at John Lewis as a ‘thank you’. And the person you refer to us will also receive £150 John Lewis vouchers upon completion. It’s a win-win situation for both you and your friend!
*Vouchers will be delivered to both you and your friend upon completion of the Perry Bishop sale or let of your referee’s property.
We are delighted to be supporting the work of Tetbury Hospital, a fantastic local service which, unlike other hospitals, relies on fundraising and the generosity of local people in order to stay open..
