Local amenities in Stroud

Buy local and support independents is Stroud’s mantra. As well as a range of one-off gift and clothing shops, Stroud boasts galleries, pubs, restaurants and cafes catering for all tastes. The recently completed Five Valleys shopping centre is also home to a range of local food suppliers. All the main supermarkets can also be found including Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco and Lidl.

As well as a number of good comprehensive schools, Stroud’s two grammar schools – Stroud High School for Girls and Marling for boys – are attended by children across the county. There are also popular independent schools nearby: Beaudesert Park School in Minchinhampton and Wycliffe College in Stonehouse. The prestigious Cheltenham College and Cheltenham Ladies’ College are just 30 minutes away.

Stroud is filled with activities suitable for all ages. The Subscription Rooms is a popular venue for music, theatre and art exhibitions and The Museum in the Park tells the history of this unique town. 

Stroud brewery is very well supported and as well as providing a selection of ethical and organic beers also hosts popular social events. The town also has a cinema and a tenpin bowling alley along with a leisure centre offering various sporting activities and a lido.

 

Transport links in Stroud

Stroud has superb transport links with a direct train service to London Paddington and Cheltenham. There are also great road links with the M5 and M4 motorway within easy reach.
